Working with the Bellydance Super Stars has been challenging, rewarding and, at times, a lesson in patience.

As a soloist and artisitc director of my own dance company "Jillina and the Sahlala Dancers," I am accustomed to producing my own shows, making all the desicions and having the final say on my shows.Now that I am also artisitc director of the Bellydance Super Stars, I have the opportunity of working alongside Ark21 record producer, Miles Copeland. Miles and I have to creat a show that will appeal to a mainstream audience.

Much of the time we have a meeting of the minds, combining the best of both worlds. We usually reach a mututal understanding but sometimes we have to agree to disagree. For instance, the general public would not aprecciate a seven or eight minute Om Kolthoum piece and their appreciation of an oriental number would not be as deep as that of the belly dance or Middle Eastern audience. My goal in the two-hour Bellydance Super Stars show is not only to entertain but also educate our universal audience. Miles Copeland reallly lilkes modern and fusion music, which I love too, nut I feel that there is room for more of the traditional stuff; so I am always struggling with that.....
