Bellydancers are undulating and shimmying at the Follies Bergere in Paris, the World Peace Concert in Bali, and our own Lollapalooza. Bellydance, a once obscure art form limited to the intimate settings of the Middle Eastern restaurants, is rapidly taking hold of the Western world. At the center of this burgeoning movement is performer and choreographer Jillina Carlano.

Known professionaly by her first name only, Jillina has long been a celebrity in the international bellydance community, but her recent work has won recognition from mainstream audiences. Working alongside Ark 21 Records' Producer Miles Copeland (former manager of the Police, REM, and the GoGos), Jillina is artisitc director and choreographer of the Bellydance Super Stars and Desert Roses, a world-touring theatrical production company (hailed as a "Must See" by Rolling Stone). Jillina also owns and directs L.A-based Sahlala Dancers Company, a group of classicaly-traine dancers who specialize in bellydance and the folkloric dances of the Middle East. The company performs regurlaly, Wednesday through Sunday, in venues all over Southern California, and at various events throught the United States...
