Bellydance Superstar star Jillina did a wondrous workshop for about 50 participants. She taught some refinement on technique and a totally fun choreography. She is a very giving teacher and a charming lady.

And after all that, Jilllina did a show that I am not going to forget any time soon. What a spectacular performer! She did three bits in the show, each so sublime in its perfection, I was in awe. First, dressed in sparkling, revealing, rose red bra and handkerchief skirt set, Jillina did a pure Oriental piece that showed off her grace and technical skill. Fluid flutters? Check! Graceful travel across the stage? Check! Stunning emotional interpretation of the music? Checkeroo! It was just beautiful. Second time out, Jillina danced a piece in the classical Persian vein. WOW! Draped in hot pink and blue, she danced first a classical Persian scene, of a lady in her boudoir putting on her make-up. She then moved into a more modern interpretation of Persian music. For her finale, Jillina came out in a midnight blue velvet sheath skirt and bra. The highlight of this set was a reprise of the drum solo she did with Issam Houshan on the Bellydance Superstars DVD.

I must admit, my jaw dropped seeing her perform it live. I polished how to do my stomach flutters from seeing her do them on that DVD in this piece. So to have her stand less than seven feet away from me and do those free-flowing, sharp, clean flutters, I was in bellydance heaven. No accent in the music was wasted. Seeing her lower abdomen pops, seeing her power spins, the strong arms, the strong hands... really all of it, was just such a thrill and a rush for me. And the best part was that she took the audience with her. We clapped, we zagareeted, we "Ya Habibi'ed" her (And contrary popular belief, I did not say "Yo Baby!" :))))))

The climax was Jillina dropping to the floor and doing some of that hair tossing she is famous for. Round and round her head went, that long, luxuriant burgundy mane of hair circling faster and ever faster. Much as I love that move, I always worry that she's gonna hurt herself going so fast. Jillina ended by dropping her face flat to the floor. But this was where the audience pulled a surprise on her. When she looked up to take her bow, we were all giving a standing ovation. She had a shocked look on her face as she went over to receive congratulations from Hiba. She seemed really stunned as she thanked us all for sharing the energy and that this show had been something special for her. I thought she was going to cry for a moment. I know *I* wanted to!
